Echocardiography, commonly called ECHO, uses ultrasound to create moving images of the heart. It can help clinicians assess heart chambers, valves, pumping function and other structural or functional features when clinically indicated.
The test is non-invasive and is interpreted in the context of your symptoms, examination and other investigations.
Preparation
Most standard transthoracic ECHO examinations do not require fasting. Wear comfortable clothing and bring previous cardiac reports, ECGs and prescriptions if available. Confirm any special instructions when booking.
